I’ll be taking a few days off, leaving the D on thursday at 6am for a travel-filled day that involves automobiles and aeroplanes (but no trains, because they’re commies.) First is the flight to Seattle, via Minn/StPaul, and then a grueling 4.5 hour drive up to Whistler, BC where I’ll be doing lots of this: That one’s from two years ago, in Winter Park, CO. The weather was gorgeous – last year in Park City, the weather was horrendous, with rain that ruined the tail end of my trip. The lesser of two evils? You bet!
This is off-the cuff because I’m fucking furious: — Labelled the “Let the People Decide Clean Campaign Act”, H.R. 4694 was introduced earlier this month in the House. Under the guise of campaign finance reform, or some other such gobbledygook, the proposal outlines in gory detail how it intends to set caps on total spending on a per congressional district basis, dividing the “political pie” pro rata according to the various parties previous voter turnout. HR 4694 also sets lower caps for spending in districts which have lower median incomes. By establishing spending caps, HR 4694 can only serve to restrict the freedom of choice that voters may currently excercise – it eliminitates any hope of reasonable, legitimate competition being raised by any third or independent party in the future. … Read entire article »

Taking a break
Taking a break, watching some TV, and giving my brain a rest… If it weren’t for the fact that I rarely have the requisite two hours to watch a movie in its entirety – Turner Classic Movies is becoming one of my favorite channels on cable lately. Tonight, they are playing Twelve Angry Men, the original, with Henry Fonda, from 1957. I remember watching it in high school years ago and being captivated by it – simple by modern cinematic standards, but the development and the dialogue between the 12 jurors is brilliant.
