Smoking: Still healthier than fascism

The latest in the assault on property rights and individual freedom comes from Detroit-area businessman and layer, Daniel Haberman. Matt++ tipped me off to this recent Detroit news editorial, from the horse’s mouth.

“Personal liberties are essential in our democracy, but none of us has the right to put the lives of 50,000 others in danger — especially when the easy remedy is for smokers to simply step outside”

Or… the non-rent-seeking alternative, is for consumers to excercise their sovereignty and patronize establishments that more accurately cater to their preferences. That consumers continue to frequent bars, restaurants, and clubs that allow smoking reveals their tolerance for second-hand smoke. If i.t were true that even a niche market of consumers really cared about smoke-free establishments, such establishments would exist and flourish.

Using the legislative power of the State to enforce your own personal preferences is an affront to liberty, everywhere.

Smoking is always, everywhere, healthier than fascism.
