A Quick Note on “Gas Boycott Day”
In light of today’s national “Gas Out,” I have the following jab:
The price of gasoline at the pump will always be lower bound by what the marginal consumer is willing to pay for it. The costs incurred sourcing, extracting, refining and delivering the product to you are not a component of the price you pay. If you think that the price is too high, refrain from buying, and see what happens – nothing! As long as there are enough other people willing to pay $3.50 per gallon, the price will remain at $3.50 per gallon.
So, in honor of all the dolts avoiding the pumps today, I’m going to fill up three times. Once for me, because my tank is running low. Once again, to offset whatever it is they hope to accomplish, and a third time, just to be a bastard about it.
In related news, experts testifying for congress blame supply and demand for the higher prices. Go figure.
