Dog Blogging: Houdini Edition
Couldn’t figure out how Rumor was escaping from her crate – I’d put her away in the AM, come home at lunch to let her out, and she’d be waiting for me on the couch, or in the back hall, whatever. One Saturday, we crated her, set up the video camera, and went to lunch.
When we came back, she greeted us at the door! BUT HOW?
This is what we saw:
You can’t tell from the video since there’s no timestamp, but she managed to do this within 5 minutes of us walking out the front door, I think the actual time on tape was about 4 minutes 30 seconds.
Needless to say, we no longer crate her, we just tolerate the fact that she likes to eat Christmas ornaments on occasion.

Why didnt you just reinforce the crate with two or three bungy cords. Two going from the door to the side of the cage and one from the door to the roof would have solved that problem.
Umm, what part of “we didn’t know how she was escaping” didn’t you understand?
The problem now, of course, is that she thinks she can escape, so if we escape-proof the cage, it just increases the likelihood that she’ll hurt herself in an attempt.
Bless her heart: from where I sit over here in the cheap seats, she looks like she’s *adorable*.
{hah!}
Haha awesome! We had a similar situation here, couldn’t figure out how our lab was getting up to the very top cabinets and getting down boxes of cereal — turns out that our cat and dog were in cahoots, the cat would knock the ceral down and the dog would eat it.
We too ended up resorting to a camera to figure it out :)
