Nowhere did I &lt;em&gt;defend&lt;/em&gt; the American system, which is fatally flawed, as well.  The average Medicare Advantage monthly premium (I think almost &lt;em&gt;all&lt;/em&gt; seniors are eligible for this) is something like $42/month.  Put it in perspective: I&#039;m 28 and healthy, my premiums are 5 times as expensive.</description>
