It seems I’ve been on an impromptu sabbatical lately – I assure you it’s not a Stanley Cup hangover. Traveled out to California for work a few weeks ago, and have been busy ever since. Mostly late nights at work, but there was a wedding thrown in the mix last weekend, and some other unwinding to be done. I even got to be “on a boat”.
Not that sort of boat, though. Was a 28-footer, belongs to a friend of a friend who took us down to the Detroit River to watch the Red Bull Air Races.
Mostly I’ve not even turned on the computer away from the office. I’ve been doing a lot of reading — fiction for a change. I finished Alongside Night, and although it was fun & entertaining, it lacked something. I’m almost finished with The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, and I’ve found that to be a much more satisfying read. I think the worst part about reading books is finishing them.
In any event, I expect to return to regularly scheduled blogging in the next few days.

David, read Stranger in a Strange Land, next, if you have not already. Alongside Night is now available, free online, here. I have not read this, but I am going to download and check it out regardless of your noted lack of something in the book.
Thanks for the tip John, I'll keep it in my queue. I actually downloaded the PDF version of Alongside Night prior to the trip to LA, I read half of it on the plane between Milwaukee and LAX. I read the other half in dead-tree version – it's not that it wasn't a good book, I really had to force myself not to finish it on the trip, since I had the paperback waiting for me at home. It was good – good enough that I've already loaned it to a friend – but I think compared to TMIAHM, it doesn't compare.
