In comments # 5 I continued the discussion of why I (generally) do not “hate the troops.” Franc replies: Your argument seems to be that ignorance of morality is an excuse to be immoral. This does not seem very defendable to me. After all, the facts about the morality of the military are easily accessible to all. If they were not, you might have a case (as in for instance the fact that ignorance of the law should be an excuse, since every point of law is not easily accessible to the average person), but not here. If you surrender your moral compass, either by joining the military or by putting faith in the government, then you should be blamed for everything that follows. Deputy Bullies Quadriplegic Man, Dumps Him From His Wheelchair

I saw this on the Today Show, this morning. It is video evidence of a Sheriff’s Deputy dumping a quadriplegic man from his wheelchair. Because he houldn’t stand up—a factt the man made clear to the Deputy. Perhaps the Deputy thought the man was faking it. I don’t know. But it seems inexcusable, to me. The victim of this brutality is considering legal actions, but in his interview this morning he spoke candidly and said that an apology from the Deputy would probably put everything right. I’d be asking for a refund. The incident happened several weeks ago, and was only recently made public by a reporter. The offending deputy has been placed on leave without pay. Final Thoughts (for now) on Morality & Paramilitary Raids

[edited to fix broken links and to clarify some vague vocabulary - 10.17am, Nov. 30.] Introduction Earlier this week, I wrote a short series of long posts (here and here) regarding morality, self-defense, and warrant-authorized home invasion, in response to a recent incident in which a really old lady was gunned down after exchanging fire with law-enforcement officers who entered her home “dynamically” in the middle of the night.
